A sheet painted blue

East, England, was the gathering place for the Bloomsbury Set, a group of British writers and philosophers active in the first half of the 20th century, and the home and studio of painters Duncan Grant and Vanessa Bell. Photographed in September 2021 at Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex. This work was taken with multiple exposure using a rangefinder camera.

'These photographs were made in September 2021 at Charleston Farmhouse in Sussex, among the painted surfaces of English radicals Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant. I wanted to inhabit the original spirit of the place; not to see it as an antique, but how I imagine it was lived; unconforming, fluid, layered, animate. All the images are a product of in-camera multiple exposures, photographed with a rangefinder camera on Kodak Portra film.' (Lewis Ronald)
